Sports events invert the normal event problem. The main attraction is fixed — a race, a match, a tournament schedule that nobody can move — and everything else has to be built around it, inside whatever access window the venue and the competition allow.
That makes sequencing, not creativity, the governing discipline. A street circuit is a temporary site assembled inside a working city; a tournament venue has to absorb activations, hospitality, and broadcast requirements without interfering with the field of play or the competition's own operations.

Why sports events
break differently.
A fixture or a race weekend is set long before the build is. Every schedule is reverse-engineered from a date that will not shift, which removes the usual last-resort of pushing the event back a week.
Venue and competition operations control when anyone can get in. Multiple contractors compete for the same gates, and a delivery that arrives out of sequence may not get a second slot.
Arrivals, half-time or session breaks, and the end-of-event exit are three different crowd problems in the same site. Each needs its own plan rather than one average one.
Nothing built around the sport may compromise the field of play, the competition's own operations, or the broadcast requirement. That constraint outranks every commercial and creative preference on site.

How early should a sports project start?
Earlier than a comparable indoor event. The fixed date removes the option of delay, and access windows are set by the venue and the competition rather than negotiated, so fabrication and load-in have to be planned backwards from constraints that will not move.
